The San has an ongoing commitment to the education and training of healthcare professionals – and as a teaching hospital, we also invest heavily in medical research through affiliations with major tertiary education institutions. We are proud to have forged a strong academic partnership with Australian National University, and our key partner in nursing education is Avondale University, whose students are able to study and live on our campus.
In 2020, Adventist HealthCare welcomed ELIA Wellness to the family. A registered charity dedicated to promoting good health, ELIA empowers the community to whole-person health, healing and hope, transforming lives in the process. ELIA stands for ‘Empower Lifestyle Innovation Advocates’ and their initiatives include health education resources and fitness programs. The evidence-based ELIA Lifestyle Medicine Centre at the San is aimed at tackling chronic diseases.
Recently, Sydney Adventist Hospital staff member Savannah Jamora travelled to Geneva, Switzerland, to visit World Health Organization (WHO) Headquarters and attend the first in-person Global Model World Health Organization Conference (GMWHO). The conference is jointly organised by the WHO and the World Federation of United Nations Associations (WFUNA).
Throughout Perioperative Nurses Week (November 10-16) we celebrate and acknowledge the incredible people who support every detail of surgical care from admission to discharge. At Sydney Adventist Hospital, our perioperative teams participated in a weeklong calendar of events including games, a cook off and educational sessions.
Trekking is an activity that Dr Gurdial Singh has always enjoyed. Before family and work commitments became a priority, trekking was a pursuit he regularly undertook. Over the last few years, he has regained the opportunity to spend time hiking. “My interest and knowledge of trekking comes from hearing and reading about places of worship in the Himalayan mountains where many Indians travel.”
